Joel Aptaker
PGA InstructorAs a junior in Los Angeles, I won a city Championship. I did not compete while I was attending college at the University of Florida or while working for a bank or owning a real estate appraisal business. I started to compete again after becoming a member of a private country club and won the match play championship. In my late 30's, I decided to change careers to become a PGA member. During the 30+ years that followed after working at numerous clubs and having been the Director of Instruction at 2 resorts, I am now a PGA instructor at the Rick Smith Golf Academy at Oakland University. I have spent much of time studying bio-mechanics and kinesiology to better understand how the correct movements of the body work to develop an efficient and effective golf swing. In addition, my extensive study of psychology has given me the understanding of how to be consistent in the swing and how to make good decisions in course management.
