Golf's American Development Model

About Golf's American Development Model

The American Development Model (ADM) is a collaboration between the United States Olympic Committee and its National Governing Bodies to integrate long-term athlete development principles into US sports culture. The goal is to create positive experiences for participants of all levels and offer a roadmap for program development focused on individual growth. ADM provides age-appropriate guidelines for the golf industry to help people enjoy golf, foster a lifelong passion, and excel in the sport.

As many as possible, for as long as possible, with the best experience possible.

By creating early positive experiences for all participants, the American Development Model will keep more golfers engaged in our sport longer.

The 5 Principles of the American Development Model

The American Development Model (ADM) is built on five key principles designed to maximize an athlete’s potential and foster lifelong engagement. By adhering to these principles, athletes can avoid common pitfalls such as over-competition, inappropriate training for different genders, and lack of integration between programs, ultimately leading to enhanced skill development, enjoyment of the sport, and optimal performance levels. Adopting these principles ensures not only the physical and mental well-being of participants but also addresses broader issues like enhancing performance and promoting fitness among golfers of all ages and abilities. I tell parents that it is ok to play multiple sports. I think it would be eye opening for parents to see this information.
