Evre D. Veress, PGA
Director of InstructionHello there, for those of you that I've not had the pleasure to meet, my name is Evre - pronounced "ever" like the word and now that we've gotten that out of the way, let me tell you a little bit about myself.
Hailing originally from New Jersey, my parents and I moved to the northlands of New York State where I grew up and found my love for the game of golf. My desire to play golf year round lead me to the premier PGM University - New Mexico State '99! In my more than 25 years as a Golf Professional, my work experience took me to the rolling hills and pastures of Central New York, to the 'burbs of Chicago, only to head back to the private club world of Gotham City. Not too long after the attacks on The World Trade Center, my desire to play for a living took me down a path towards the beaches and narrow fairways of Florida, to the rolling baked out fairways of Texas, to the pristine world of Scottsdale golf! There my path took a turn to the alpine forests and high deserts of the Reno/Greater Tahoe area where I took my first official Head Golf Professional job at the Resort at Red Hawk. As fate would have it, 15 years ago I returned to the East Coast and have spent the last 10 years here in the Northern Virginia area with my lovely & patient wife - Lisa. Together, about 9 years ago we started my first Indoor Golf Studio/Academy - Forevre Golf (See what I did there 😁) and I have now branched out to manning the helm of Director of Instruction at the course right down the road from my house - Old Hickory Golf Club.
My teaching influences have spanned the days of Golf Digest's hand drawn illustrations of Nicklaus and Watson, to wearing out old VHS videos of Nick Faldo, David Leadbetter and Jimmy Ballard. Over the years I've had the opportunity to meet some of the game's most respected instructors and have geeked out with former Tour Pros over bootlegged videos of Hogan practicing alone with his caddy, not realizing that there was even paparazzi back then videotaping him from the woods. I also spent time as a content editor for one of the first Golf Instructional websites (Golfspan) that was the first to upload the greatest hits of Ballard, McLean, Leadbetter and allow access to subscribers. Not to mention, there was my full embracement and personal use of technology driven data that could better our games. TPI's understanding of biomechanics and how it relates to the motion of the club, provided some of the secrets that words, drills and tempo thoughts never could. So while I'm well-versed in Penick's Little books and can recite Golf My Way with the best of them, (not to mention I've got a number of abstract analogies I've coined myself), I've fully embraced technology with regards to launch monitors, K-Vest, Pressure Mats, swing aids, etc.
Because what it really comes down to, is that there is not just one way to teach someone how to be better at golf. It's a blend of old and new knowledge of the game that needs to be patiently explained and demonstrated so that the student can learn how to "feel" the proper way to move the body throughout the swing. Our subconscious is where our best golf comes from and even if that's triggered with words, it still all comes down to turning those words or thoughts into feelings in the body itself through that infinite 2 seconds a golf swing takes.
I take the mission of getting you to find the best version of your golfing self very seriously or at least as serious as my humor plagued personality can endure and if you invest your time and resources with me into the betterment of your golf game, I promise that you will not regret the time spent!
