Chris Yoder, PGA
Director of Youth Player DevelopmentChris Yoder is entering his twelfth season at Scioto Country Club. Chris, a certified US Kids golf instructor, has been coaching and teaching golf for seventeen years. Chris oversees the entire junior program at Scioto, including implementing many new junior programs such as Drive, Chip & Putt Training, Beginner, Lily Pod, Rising Stars, Rising Stars + and Junior Elite Team. Due to the success of these programs, Chris was recognized worldwide as he was named 2021 & 2022 Top 50 Kids Coach by US Kids Golf. Additionally, during the summer of 2021, Chris became the first teacher to coach both the Ohio Junior Champion, Tyler Sabo, and the Ohio Amateur Champion, Max Watson, in the same season. Chris Yoder was awarded the 2022 Southern Ohio PGA Teacher and Coach of the Year. Most recently Chris was awarded Top 100 Growth of The Game Teacher by GRAA. In 2023 Chris coached Harrison Young to the Drive, Chip and Putt Finals. He traveled to Augusta with Harrison coaching him to a 1st place finish in the drive competition.
Prior to Scioto Country Club, Chris was the Associate Head Men’s Golf Coach at The Ohio State University. Many of the players he worked with during this time are familiar names around Scioto, including Bo Hoag, Tanner Murphy and Alex Redfield. Before Ohio State, he was an assistant golf coach at his alma mater, Wake Forest University, for six seasons. A few notable players he worked with during his tenure include Bill Haas ( 2011 FedEx Cup Champion), Webb Simpson (2012 U.S. Open Champion), and Kyle Reifers (PGA Tour). In addition to these players going on to the PGA Tour level, he also worked with several top amateurs and Walker Cup players. Chris helped coach the Demon Deacons to 9 tournament wins including 3 regional championships and a 3rd place finish at the 2006 NCAA Championship. He helped direct the Jerry Haas Golf Camp which included 3 separate weeks of golf camps during the summer for kids ranging between 10 and 17 years of age. He evaluated and taught junior golfers on the golf swing technique, short game, on course coaching, strength and conditioning, and the mental approach of the game. Several of these campers went on to play collegiate golf, including 3 who played for Wake Forest.
Chris is a native of Ashland, Ohio where he helped lead Ashland High School to the 1998 Division I State High School Championship. He went on to play collegiate golf at Wake Forest (1999-2003) where he helped the team reach a number 1 ranking during his junior and senior year with a 4th place finish at the 2003 NCAA Championship. During his senior year at Wake Forest, he was named a Cleveland Golf All-American Scholar. Chris played professionally for several years before becoming a full time golf coach! Chris is married to Melanie Yoder and they have three children, Christian (12), William (9) and Isabelle (5).
Chris looks forward to helping each player find their love and passion for the sport. He understands everyone has different coaching and instruction needs; as a result, he is able to coach everyone with the proper methods and techniques to help the player reach their full potential.
