PGA of America partners with Jopwell to develop diverse workforce throughout golf industry

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – The PGA of America has announced a new partnership with Jopwell, the leading career advancement platform for Black, Latinx, and Native American students and professionals, to connect the Association with talented diverse candidates from underrepresented minority groups.

Founded by former Wall Street analysts Porter Braswell and Ryan Williams, Jopwell empowers employers to build more diverse companies, while providing its community of students and professionals the tools they need to unlock opportunities for advancement at every career stage.

The PGA is partnering with Jopwell to not only diversify its workforce, but to also lead the charge in helping the golf industry authentically engage with multi-ethnic audiences, as America’s demographics continue to change. The partnership’s focus is twofold: Jopwell will work with the PGA to connect qualified talent from its community with job openings at the PGA and produce PGA-specific content that celebrates the representation of Black, Latinx and Native Americans in golf.

Currently, 43 percent of Millennials are multicultural, and as their economic power and cultural influence increases, the PGA recognizes the importance of continuing to grow their interest in golf. Further, in order to compete in today’s global economy, building a workforce representative of the consumer population is imperative.

“We must foster the development of a golf industry workforce that reflects the demographic composition of America,” said PGA of America CEO Pete Bevacqua. “The idea of, ‘If you can see it, you can be it,’ is critical to our mission to grow participation in the sport and maintain the relevancy of our PGA Professionals. America’s new consumer needs to see others that look like them working in the business and playing the sport, if they are going to consider careers and participation in golf.”

Jopwell empowers the most historically underrepresented ethnic minority groups to successfully navigate their careers, by providing access to career resources, job opportunities, exclusive events and personalized content via its digital magazine, The Well. By partnering with Jopwell, the PGA will have exclusive access to a searchable pool of professionals and students who represent a wide range of backgrounds, interests and skills. On the candidate side, the Jopwell community will have the ability to apply to a variety of roles within the organization, including full-time corporate and affiliate opportunities. These openings will be listed on the PGA’s custom company page on Jopwell.com and marketed to the Jopwell community.

One example of content the PGA and Jopwell will collaborate on is a special collection of representative images that feature diverse professionals currently working in the golf industry, modeled on the success of The Jopwell Collection.

“We are thrilled to work with the PGA of America—one of the most influential organizations in golf—to support their commitment to diversifying their workforce and visually celebrate the trailblazing Black, Latinx and Native American talent in golf,” said Jopwell CEO and cofounder Porter Braswell. “Our mission at Jopwell is to introduce talent from the most historically underrepresented ethnic minority backgrounds to new and varied opportunities across industries. We are incredibly proud to add career opportunities in golf to our growing roster of sports clients.”

To ensure qualified representation in its recruitment of candidates, the PGA has utilized diverse-slate protocols in its hiring practices since 2015. Other current PGA of America engagement programs designed to support this diversification effort, include PGA WORKS Fellowships, PGA WORKS Headquarters Internships, PGA Golf Management University Scholarships, and the PGA Minority Collegiate Championship and Career Expo.
