Tiger Woods' FedEx Cup Playoffs history: Scores, results

Tiger Woods' return to the FedEx Cup Playoffs after five years away ended in emotional fashion. Tiger won the Tour Championship for his first PGA Tour win since 2013.

The win came after recent success. In the first FedEx Cup Playoffs event, The Northern Trust, Woods finished tied for 40th. He did better the next week at the Dell Technologies Championship, as he tied for 24th. At the BMW Championship, Woods started by shooting an 8-under 62. He finished 17-under and tied for sixth.

Tiger was ranked No. 20 going into the first of the four FedEx Cup events. Dustin Johnson started No. 1. But Justin Rose ended up claiming the 2018 FedEx Cup.

Tiger finished in second.

Since the FedEx Cup started in 2007, Tiger is the only player to win it twice.

Justin Thomas won the FedEx Cup last year. He was No. 2 in the regular season standings, behind only Hideki Matsuyama. But Thomas won the Dell Technologies Championship and then later finished second at The Tour Championship.

As for Tiger, he won the first FedEx Cup back in 2007. He did it by a huge margin, too, as he won the BMW Championship and then The Tour Championship. He ended up more than 12,000 points ahead of the No. 2 finisher, Steve Stricker. It remains, by far, the largest margin between the top two finishers for the FedEx Cup. Henrik Stenson's 2,007-point margin in 2013 -- ahead of No. 2 Tiger -- is the second-highest.

In 2009, Tiger finished ahead of Phil Mickelson and Stricker.

Though he didn't win it in 2008, Tiger ranked first in points despite playing in only six events. Knee surgery in June forced Tiger out of competition.

Tiger later went second and third in consecutive years before a string of injuries, including two back surgeries, kept him sidelined.

But Tiger is now back in 2018. He's also been playing well consistently the last couple of months. He tied for fourth at the Quicken Loans National, finished tied for sixth at The Open Championship, tied for 31st at WGC-Bridgestone and then came in second at the PGA Championship.

Tiger will next play in the Ryder Cup for the first time since 2012. He was a captain's pick by U.S. Captain Jim Furyk.
