In less than a week, Tiger Woods will make his return to the PGA Tour for the first time in a year when he tees it up in the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines.
Traditionally, Woods has been keen on beginning the new calendar year at Torrey Pines and for good reason -- it's a place that has been incredibly good to him through the years.
Woods has won the Farmers Insurance Open a whopping seven times (1999, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2013) and, if you count the 2008 U.S. Open, he's won as a professional at Torrey Pines eight times.
Though Woods making it eight Farmers Insurance Open wins next week is a monster ask in his first event back after a long break from injury, if a win is going to happen anywhere, it could very well be there, right?
Tiger's success got us wondering: what's the record for most wins in one PGA Tour event?
You've heard of "horses for courses," but get a load of this...
Sam Snead and Tiger Woods are tied for the PGA Tour record for most wins in one event with eight.
Snead took the Greater Greensboro Open title in 1938, 1946, 1949, 1950, 1955, 1956, 1960 and 1965.
Woods, meanwhile, has won the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013) and the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone (1999, 2000, 2001, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2013) eight times apiece.
Woods, Snead, Jack Nicklaus and Walter Hagen are the only golfers who have won more than one event at least five times. Here's the breakdown:
6 events
- Tiger Woods (WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, WGC-Cadillac Championship, Farmers Insurance Open, Arnold Palmer Invitational, BMW Championship, Memorial Tournament)
