Scott Gregory was 17 shots better after shooting that 92 in Round 1 of the US Open

Scott Gregory isn't going to make the cut at his second-ever U.S. Open, but he certainly showed resilience Friday.

Thursday, the Englishman shot a tournament-worst 22-over on a day that saw a scoring average of six-over, and only four golfers finishing below par.

After parring No. 1, Gregory racked up six bogeys, two doubles and a triple over his next nine holes. 

In total Gregory only carded three pars on the day, and no score below bar.

After the round, Gregory didn't shy away from reporters. 

"I've shot quite a big number today," Gregory said Thursday, according to the Associated Press. "Everyone has bad days. Look at Tiger, Rory and all of them."

"I'll forget about that pretty quickly," he added.

And so he did. 

Friday, Gregory played his first nine just 3-over, and even saw his first birdie of the tournament on his 17th hole, No. 8. He finished the round 5-over, better than second-day rounds by Sergio Garcia (9-over), Jon Rahm (7-over), Matt Kuchar (7-over), Danny Willet (6-over), and many more.

While Gregory won't be playing at Shinnecock over the weekend, he provided a great lesson to all players Friday: Always have a short memory in golf.
