Sergio Garcia made a 13 at the Masters. Here's where it ranks in history.

Sergio Garcia’s defense of his green jacket did not get off to a great start Thursday at the Masters.

The reigning champion posted a 13 on the par-5 15th hole, a score that broke the hole’s previous record of 11 strokes (a tie between Masashi Ozaki in 1987, Ben Crenshaw in 1997, and Ignacio Garrido in 1998).

It tied the Masters record for most strokes in a single hole — Tsuneyuki Nakajima needed 13 on the Par-5 No. 13 in 1978, and Tom Weiskopf set the Masters record for shots over par in a single hole, carding a 10-over 13 on the Par-3 12th in 1980.

So, how did the previous two record holders fare the rest of the way?

Nakajima missed the cut in the 1978 Masters — his first appearance at Augusta National. He wouldn’t return to the tournament until 1983, where he tied for 16th place. Weiskopf also missed the cut the year of his one-hole collapse and sat out of the next year’s Masters for the first time in 13 years.
