A Quick Nine: Best golf courses for college football fans

In this week's edition of, 'A Quick Nine,' we tackle a very delicate topic for many of our readers -- college football.

Don't worry -- we're not going to turn into Kirk Herbstreit and Coach Lee Corso or anything. Instead, we're interested in golf and college football. More specifically: If you could complete a doubleheader of golf and football in one day, which locale would you choose?

We posed that question to our nearly 191,000 strong friends in PGA.com Facebook Nation over the weekend and they fired back with some great answers.

Based on the answers we received, here are the top 9 locales for a golf/college football doubleheader. Feel free to click on the course names to visit the respective course pages on PGA.com to leave a review.

9. University of Tennessee Volunteers. Before heading over to Rocky Top, we're told you might want to check out Willow Creek Golf Club in Knoxville. The course re-opened on August 1 with brand, spanking new Champion Ultra Dwarf Bermuda Grass greens.

8. University of Miami Hurricanes. There's plenty of great golf to be had in south Florida, but arguably no more famous a resort than Doral. Renovations are underway at the Blue Monster since Mr. Donald Trump acquired the resort, but you can still enjoy great golf on the Great White, Jim McLean Signature, Red and Gold courses.

7. University of Michigan Wolverines. Headed to the Big House in Ann Arbor to see the Wolverines? For a little golf beforehand, we're told you can't miss at the University of Michigan Golf Course, or the Classic at Otsego Club and Resort.

6. Clemson University Tigers. You'll get no argument from Clemson grads Lucas Glover, Jonathan Byrd, D.J. Trahan or Kyle Stanley about a 1-2 combo of Clemson's Walker Course followed by a trip to Death Valley.

5. University of Louisville Cardinals. OK, you're going to have to know someone to pull this one off, but -- if you can get on Valhalla (site of the first U.S. Ryder Cup win -- 2008 -- since 1999) you must. And then, of course, it's off to see the Cardinals at Papa John Stadium.

4. University of Alabama Crimson Tide. It looks like there are a number of courses to choose from on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail if you're looking for an early round before taking in some football at Bama.

3. University of Georgia Bulldogs. Before you keep up with the action between the hedges, check out the University of Georgia Golf Course, which Golf Digest rated as one of the top 50 public courses in the nation.

2. Ohio State University Buckeyes. You've got to check out the Scarlet Course. Here's how it's described on the OSU website: "In 2005 and 2006 the Scarlet Course underwent a major restoration project overseen by former Buckeye legend Jack Nicklaus. Jack concentrated on restoring the course to the way Alister MacKenzie originally intended it to play. The bunkers were redesigned to appear more like the classic MacKenzie designs at his numerous other courses. The course was also lengthened to play more than 7,400 yards and the par was changed to 71."

1. Oklahoma State University Cowboys. Hunter Mahan and Rickie Fowler are among the many Pokes on the PGA Tour who honed their skills at Karsten Creek, which opened in 1994 and was immediately named "Best New Course" in the country by Golf Digest.
