Overview
- Ages: Boys 6-9 and Girls 6-8 (Please note: Ages are guidelines, not restrictions)
- Primary Focus: Develop fundamental movement and motor skills, focusing on the ABC's of athleticism: agility, balance, coordination, and speed. This stage is all about fostering a love for the game and learning cooperative play. Par 3 courses or appropriately shortened courses are ideal.
- Competition Level: Group fun! It's not about winning.

Skills and Development
- Athletic Skills: Agility, balance, coordination, skipping, hopping, and flexible strength. Includes throwing/tossing and catching using either hand.
- Technical Skills: Emphasizes fundamental movement skill development. Work on putting, chipping, and full-swing skills.
- Psychological Development: Focus on concentration, teachability, making choices, respecting rules, coping with both success and failure, and problem-solving abilities.
- Social Development: Foster cooperation and consideration with peers, demonstrate responsibility, and aim to complete tasks. Emphasize a desire to do one's best.
Play Guidelines
- Practice: No formal guidelines. Encourage positive experiences and participation, dictated by the child’s interest level.
- Equipment and Safety: Use age-appropriate clubs, which should include a putter, lofted iron, and a driver suitable for the child’s height and strength. Avoid cut-down adult clubs to prevent developing poor habits.
- Where to play: Versatile locations: from golf courses to school playgrounds. On the course, play 3, 6, or 9 holes at shorter yardages as appropriate.
