What Makes a Perfect Golf Club? | 2021 PGA Merchandise Show
Published on
The PGA Merchandise Show looked a little different in 2021, with leaders from the game coming together virtually.
Titleist Director of Metalwood Development Stephanie Luttrell joined the Fairway Tales Podcast to share her own story of how the PGA Merchandise Show helped craft her career and gave some amazing insight into club design and fitting that we’re sure golfers would love to hear.
And while one might think there isn’t an answer to “What makes the perfect golf club?” Luttrell's experience from working for Callaway to Cleveland and now Titleist has helped guide her hypothesis.
The answer is simple: The perfect club is the club that is fit for you.
“The attributes of what we look for, whether you’re a newcomer or a TOUR professional are the same,” Luttrell said. “We look at tendencies in your golf swing, what your shop shape is or what you want your ball flight to be and fit the club to your game.”
Luttrell has worked with Justin Thomas to build and fit the product for exactly what he needs to be successful on the PGA Tour. Even though you may not be among the top golfers in the world, the approach to finding the right clubs for you should be the same.
“The same approach we take with Justin Thomas translates all the way down to new golfers,” Luttrell said. “I had a good friend who was new to the game and was able to get fitted and she dropped 15 shots just by getting fit into golf clubs that were properly outfitted for her. I highly recommend all those that are new to the game to experience a club fitting and see the benefit it can give you by having your equipment dialed into yourself.”
