We should have spent this weekend watching the United States and Europe battle along the shores of Lake Michigan in the 43rd Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits.
The United States top 6 currently features the first two major champions of 2020 in Bryson DeChambeau (2nd) and Collin Morikawa (3rd), as well as world No. 1 Dustin Johnson (1st), Brooks Koepka (4th), Justin Thomas (5th) and Webb Simpson (6th).
We caught up with PGA Coaches earlier this year to get their insights into some of the world’s top players. Check out what they had to say about the current U.S. Ryder Cup Team Top 6 below.
No. 1 Dustin Johnson
“He's athletic, strong and mild-mannered on the golf course. Dustin Johnson never appears to be rattled or concerned with mistakes, because he can always make up for the errors. Such an exciting player to watch in the modern era.” — PGA Coach Andre R. Pillow, Player Development Professional at Blythefield Country Club
No. 2 Bryson DeChambeau
“Being different is a strength, not a weakness. Sometimes it takes going against the grain of "norm" to break through performance barriers and seek new territory in this game. In order to be the best, you must also be willing to try new things and techniques.” — PGA Coach Dr. Alison Curdt, PGA Master Professional
No. 3 Collin Morikawa
“Proof positive that as a collegiate player you can complete your college degree and still have success on tour. Golf is a game where maturity needs to coincide with ability, and Morikawa has both of these facets intersecting in perfect harmony at the moment.” — PGA Coach Steve Scott, Head Professional, The Outpost Club
No. 4 Brooks Koepka
“Brooks has four majors, which is all the needs to be said! He's an athlete first, golfer second. He hits it far and accurate, but also has tremendous touch around the greens. His swing features a stable lower body, big shoulder turn, with limited hand action.” — PGA Coach Andre R. Pillow, Player Development Professional at Blythefield Country Club
No. 5 Justin Thomas
“Maintaining a calm & positive demeanor on the golf course can save a poor round, and amplify an amazing round. Staying consistent with your mental state is a factor in great performances.” — PGA Coach Dr. Alison Curdt, PGA Master Professional
No. 6 Webb Simpson
"The way Webb has shifted gears and gone from one of the worst putters to one of the best) is a testament to his resolve to overcome obstacles." — PGA Coach Steve Scott, Head Professional, The Outpost Club
