LPGA Star Mel Reid Is a Driving Force Behind Making Golf More Inclusive
Published on
Beyond being a force on the course, LPGA star Mel Reid is unapologetically herself.
Reid recently met up with Skratch for a special Pride Month feature in which she takes viewers through a typical round at her new home course Atlantic Beach Country Club in Atlantic Beach, Florida. Along the way, she showcases her many talents ranging from trash-talking to iron play. There's a reason that Mel likes the course, and it goes beyond the 18 holes. Mel is also happy to have found a home course that is welcoming, accepting and comfortable.
She came out in 2018 and has been an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community within the golf industry ever since. One of the things she is most outspoken about is the discrimination and that many across all skill levels and backgrounds face within the game’s culture, specifically when it comes to minorities.
One of the things that compelled her to come out was the discrimination that she witnessed. Now, it is one of her goals to be a catalyst in making golf a more inclusive game for all.
