More than 18 years ago, Renee Fluker saw a need within her community of Detroit for a stronger after-school program with the ultimate goal of getting more kids to college.
Inspired by her son, who learned the game of golf in middle school and went on to play in college, Renee took out a loan, gathered support from local businesses and got to work creating Midnight Golf.
With the support of the Michigan Section of the PGA of America — which provides funding and eight PGA Professionals each week to provide instruction — the program has not only taught the game of golf to hundreds of young people, but also has established a college enrollment rate of 98 percent among its participants.
