Through all the trials and hardships that 2020 brought, one shining light for the golf industry was the influx of golfers to courses across the country. The Golf Channel’s Damon Hack caught up with PGA of America CEO Seth Waugh, PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan and LPGA Commissioner Mike Whan at the PGA Merchandise Show for an insightful look back on 2020 and how their focus is on continuing the momentum and growth of the game in 2021.
Hack summed up golf in 2020 beautifully by saying, “The sky looked a little bluer. The trees-a little greener.”
"I don't know that anybody that I know that returned to golf in 2020 is planning to play less of it. They now know it's important to their life.” Whan shares why he believes the game has helped golfers escape and find normalcy during a difficult time.
Seth Waugh has big expectations for the game and knows the industry has to learn from the last year and embrace new golfers for those to come to fruition.
"The game of golf continues to be that respite for people... I think we're going to continue to deliver happiness & an outlet for people." Jay Monahan shares his optimism for 2021 and beyond.
