The event will kick off Nov. 18 (Friday) with a skills challenge, followed by an exhibition featuring Gary McCord, LDRIC the Golf Robot and PGA Tour caddies Jim “Bones” Mackay (Phil Mickelson) and Joe Skovron (Rickie Fowler). On Friday evening, PGA REACH, the charitable arm of the PGA of America—which includes PGA Junior League Golf as its key youth program—will host a reception for the Arizona golf community. Preliminary matches take place Nov. 19-20 (Saturday-Sunday), with the Championship matches and awards luncheon scheduled for Nov. 21 (Monday).
Teams will compete in nine-hole matches using a two-person, scramble format. Captains are allowed to substitute players every three holes, so that all team members can participate. Teams competing for the title won their respective regional competition and include Connecticut, California, Georgia, Ohio, Illinois, New Jersey, Alabama and Texas. Four of the eight teams are repeat qualifiers from last year’s National Championship including: Georgia (2015 runner-up); New Jersey (3rd place in 2015); Ohio (4th place in 2015); and Connecticut (7th place in 2015).
