Bones to Bro: Phil Mickelson calls on brother to fill in as caddie
MEXICO CITY (AP) — Phil Mickelson had a familiar face on the bag in Mexico Championship. He called him "Bro," not "Bones."
Mickelson's younger brother was pressed into duty Friday at Chapultepec Golf Club when Jim "Bones" Mackay fell ill and couldn't go more than three holes. Tim Mickelson is at the Mexico Championship because he manages Spanish rookie Jon Rahm.
It was the first time the Mickelson brothers worked together as player and caddie.
And it seemed to work out just fine. Even though Mickelson made a bogey in his first hole with his brother on the bag, he wound up with a 68 and was in contention.
Tim Mickelson didn't bother trying to consult his older brother. He says Lefty never listened to him at home, and wasn't about to on a golf course.
