Augusta National is making changes to its 5th hole. Here's what we know now

There are more details out about the changes coming to the fifth hole at Augusta National Golf Club.

As reported by Golf Channel's Tim Rosaforte, the club is adding a tee box that will lengthen the Masters Tournament's fifth hole by 30 yards.

In April, The Augusta Chronicle's John Boyette reported that preliminary site plans filed on January 30 said the tee box would be pushed back across Berckmans Road. This will lessen congestion at the No. 4 green and the current spot of the fifth tee. Boyette reported November 1 as the approximate end date.

The fifth hole is currently 455 yards.

"The new hole will play upwards of 485 yards in an attempt to restore the shot value that has been taken away by the distances achieved by the modern game," Rosaforte said. "Instead of 3-woods and 7-irons, the new fifth should require a driver and a 5-iron, at the very least, depending upon the conditions."
