Senior PGA Professional Championship Unveils a New Name

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- Begun in 1989, the Senior PGA Professional Championship is both an extension of competitive opportunities for PGA Professionals 50-and-older and a stepping stone for many to a second career in golf.

Formerly the Senior PGA Professional National Championship, the 264-player field assembling in November 2016 at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida, will compete in the newly-titled 28th Senior PGA Professional Championship presented by Mercedes-Benz USA.

The Senior PGA Professional Championship field is composed of representatives from 41 nationwide Senior Professional Section Championships conducted in the late summer and fall of 2016. The 35 top finishers in the Senior PGA Professional Championship earn berths in the Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid.

“The Senior PGA Professional Championship is both a national showcase of our best playing senior PGA members and a tremendous opportunity for those who choose to elevate their game to the next level,” said PGA President Derek Sprague. “We’re proud of the legacy of this Championship and the talented players who each year compete for the Leo Fraser Trophy and a berth in our senior major championship.”

The 28th Senior PGA Professional Championship will be contested Nov. 17-20, 2016, at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
