Last year: Sang-moon Bae beat Steven Bowditch by two strokes.
 
Last week: The United States won the Presidents Cup, beating the International team 15 1/2 to 14 1/2 in South Korea. Bill Haas delivered the winning point, edging Bae 2 up in the final match. The event was Bae's last before starting mandatory military service in South Korea.
 
Notes: The tournament opens the 2015-16 PGA Tour season. ... Third-ranked Rory McIlroy is in the field. He won twice on the tour last season, but was sidelined for two months after injuring his left ankle playing soccer with friends a few weeks before the British Open. ... Johnny Miller, part of Silverado's ownership group, is the tournament host. ... The Shriners Hospitals for Children Open is next week in Vas Vegas, followed by the McGladrey Classic in Sea Island, Georgia.

Purse: $2 million. Winner's share: $300,000.
 
Last year: South Korea's Kyu Jung Baek won in her first tour start, beating In Gee Chun and Brittany Lincicome with a birdie on the first hole of a playoff.
 
Last week: Jessica Korda won the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia, closing with a 6-under 65 for a four-stroke victory.
 
Notes: Top-ranked Inbee Park won two of the five majors this year. The South Korean star is tied with second-ranked Lydia Ko for the tour victory lead with four. Ko tied for second last week in Malaysia after winning her previous two starts in Canada and France, where the 18-year-old New Zealander became the youngest major champion. ... Nine of the top 10 players in the world ranking and 18 of the top 20 are in the field. ... The LPGA Taiwan Championship is next week, followed by stops in China and Japan.

Last year: Michael Allen won the second of his two 2014 titles. He closed with a 6-under 66 to beat Marco Dawson by two strokes.
 
Last week: Tom Lehman won the SAS Championship in North Carolina. He had an eagle and three birdies in the final four holes for a one-stroke victory.
 
Notes: Colin Montgomerie leads the Charles Schwab Cup standings, 39 points ahead of Jeff Maggert with three events left. Maggert has a tour-high four victories, winning majors in the Regions Tradition and U.S. Senior Open. ... Fred Couples won in 2011, shooting 62-62-66 for a seven-stroke victory. ... The tour is off next week. Play will resume Oct. 30-Nov. 1 with the Toshiba Classic in Newport Beach, California.
