Luke Donald withdraws from RSM Classic due to chest pains

Luke Donald, the 2011 PGA Tour player of the year and winner of five Tour events, was released from Southeast Georgia Hospital in Brunswick on Thursday after undergoing seven hours of tests following chest pains on Wednesday night that lasted into Thursday morning.

 

Well that wasn’t quite the finish to my year I had in mind!! Had some chest pain last night and into this morning & it kept getting worse. After some medical advice, I had to withdraw & was shipped off to the hospital to get my heart looked at. After 7 hours of tests all looks good with my heart thankfully A big thank you to the staff at the South East Georgia Brunswick hospital for taking good care of me. Time to put my feet up for a few weeks, recharge, regroup and get ready for a big 2018.

Donald, who is 39 years old, posted a photo of himself on Twitter with thanks to the medical staff at the hospital.

"Well, that wasn't quite the finish to my year I had in mind!" Donald posted to his Twitter site. "Had some chest pain last night and into this morning & it kept getting worse. After some medical advice, I had to withdraw [from the RSM Classic] & was shipped off to the hospital to get my heart looked at. After seven hours of tests, all looks good with my heart thankfully."

Donald, a native of England who played college golf at Northwestern, said he will take it easy during the Tour's off-season.

"Time to put my feet up for a few weeks, recharge, regroup and get ready for a big 2018," he posted.

Donald, who lives in Jupiter, is a veteran of four European Ryder Cup teams. He was the first native of England to be voted PGA Tour player of the year and the first to win the Arnold Palmer Award for the most earnings. He led both the PGA Tour and the European PGA Tour in earnings that year.
