Jordan Spieth whiffs on attempted shot at Presidents Cup

Playing the par-5 ninth hole at Liberty National in Friday's fourballs session of the Presidents Cup, Jordan Spieth did something we've all done, but you'd never expect to see him do: he whiffed.

After sending his drive right off the fairway, Spieth caught a lie that was just outside a greenside bunker leaving him with an incredibly awkward stance.

In a stroke play event, there's a good chance Spieth would have punched out sideways and back into play. Being that it's match play, however, you can't take your foot off the accelerator.

Spieth attempted a nearly impossible shot and, well, never made contact with the ball while failing back into the bunker.

While calling this one a "whiff" is accurate, it doesn't quite take into account the difficulty of the shot.

Spieth said afterward, "That was my only chance. It's actually about as bad as I could have done."

Yeah, it wasn't pretty.

And it hasn't been pretty for Spieth and partner Patrick Reed thus far today. The dynamic pairing were 2 down to Adam Hadwin and Hideki Matsuyama to that point.
