On this day: Lee Trevino hits $175k ace at 1987 Skins Game

The date was November 29, 1987 and the Skins Game was one of the premier made-for-TV golf events around. A national audience tuned in to watch a star-studded event as Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino and Fuzzy Zoeller battled for a good chunk of change.

Thanks to a four-hole carryover, the group walked up to the par-3 165 yard 17th hole at the PGA Stadium West course with a skin worth $175,000. Trevino had the honors still from winning his skin on the 12th and took full advantage it, sinking an ace and taking the jackpot.

In the instant-reaction interview, Trevino says, “When it was in the air, Jack said it was a pretty shot. Can’t get any prettier than that!”
