The Adventures of Phil Mickelson: Revisiting Phil's wild round

Editor's Note: As this year's WGC-Mexico Championship is about to tee off, we take a look back at one of the most Phil Mickelson rounds ever at last year's inaugural tournament. 

This is the story of a man named Phil. 

Today he was rejoined by his caddie Bones, who was ill.

From the start of his round, he found many trees -- a place you will see became a common scene.

"Just obstacles. No worries," Phil said (probably), as him and his wedges kept making birdies.

He went out in 33 and was up near the lead, but on the back nine is where we find the fun part of our story.

As was the trend, his drive on 10 went errant. But a patron picked the ball up (the reason not apparent).

After spending some time hanging with the gallery, Lefty again scrambled his way to avoid a bogey.

On to the 11th, where the drives he continued to push. This one happened to find a large bush.

It's there he found a fortuitous sprinkler head. It allowed for relief and no penalty stroke instead.

We move on to 14 where our hero's troubles continued, but we pause from the rhyming because this might be the most Phil par ever.

It's after this adventure Lefty found his groove, birdied the next three holes and on the leaderboard improved.

One final bogey (tame and unexciting unlike the rest), left Phil two strokes back heading into the tournament's final test.

A wild day it was for Phil down in Mexico, we leave you with these stats to close his incredible show.
