U.S. Open cut rule explained: Who makes the weekend
Published on
A cut will be made at the end of the 2019 U.S. Open's second round to reduce the field for the weekend.
Here’s what you need to know about it.
- The top 60 players (including ties) make the cut.
- There is no 10-shot rule, which would include any player 10 shots within the lead.
- These rules were implemented in 2012 to combat increasingly large weekend fields.
- The U.S. Open cut is among the strictest in major tournaments. The PGA Championship includes the top 70 and ties. The Masters keeps the top 50 but uses the 10-shot rule, so more than half of the field usually makes the cut.
