Bubba Watson, Phil Mickelson among big names to miss cut at 2018 PGA Championship

The 2018 PGA Championship cut claimed big names after the second round finished on Saturday.

The top 70 players including ties make the cut. Players had to shoot even or better to make the weekend.

Bubba Watson was on the safe side of the cut to start the second round at even, but he shot 78 on Friday to drop to 8-over and well below the cut line. It's the second year in a row Watson failed to make the weekend at the PGA Championship. Watson had two double-bogeys during his Friday round.

Phil Mickelson, the 2005 PGA Champion, missed the cut for the second consecutive year. Mickelson shot 73-71.

While U.S. Open Champion Brooks Koepka tied a PGA Championship record with his 63 on Friday, another 2018 major winner struggled. Masters Tournament champion Patrick Reed finished 3-over to miss the cut by three shots.

Sergio Garcia, 2017 Masters winner, also fell short of the cut line after shooting 70-71.

Some top Ryder Cup hopefuls also missed the cut. Along with Mickelson, who's No. 10 in the current Ryder Cup standings, No. 9 Bryson DeChambeau and No. 12 Matt Kuchar fell short of the cut line.

Both DeChambeau and Kuchar shot 71-70 and were one shot away from playing on the weekend.
