USGA mows down some fescue at Erin Hills after Tuesday’s heavy rain

It was fun while it lasted – depending on who you ask.

Due to heavy rains on Tuesday morning, the USGA decided to cut down a good portion of the fescue on the course, noting that the precipitation had matted down certain areas. As a result, they said, an already-difficult part of the course became too chastening.

Some golfers took issue with the fescue on Monday, while others took a lighter approach, such as Lee Westwood:

By no means will Erin Hills be easy, but golfers are likely thankful for the move. U.S. Open play is set to begin on Thursday.
